All FedEx packages and mail will be halted for 24 hours in just weeks

ALL FedEx packages and mail will soon halted for 24 hours, but consumers can take steps to prevent being inconvenienced.

The temporary pause isn’t exclusive to the transport company either, as banks and select retailers are making a similar move.

It comes as in recognition of Labor Day, which falls on September 1 this year.

Labor Day is celebrated on the first Monday in September annually, and honors American workers efforts and achievements.

While not all businesses in America close down on Labor Day, it is a federal holiday, and recognized on FedEx’s holiday schedule.

That means that FedEx Ground, Home Delivery, and Express will be shut down for 24 hours, along with FedEx Freight and FedEx Logistics.

Local FedEx offices could have modified hours, however, and customers should contact their nearest location for more details or use the company’s store locator tool on its website.

The only service from FedEx that will remain fully available is FedEx Custom Critical.

That’s because it’s for the most high-priority and urgent of deliveries.

Those Americans who still intend to send out packages around Labor Day should take three crucial steps.

CHECKLIST MADE

First, plan ahead if possible by shipping out items the week before Labor Day starts, ideally by August 29 at the latest.

Secondly, take advantage of the FedEx Delivery Manager tool to get real-time updates or determine whether or not to have packages already on the way to be held for a later delivery a few days after Labor Day.

Lastly, remain aware that the package will show up before or after Labor Day so there aren’t any security issues.

Whether its having a trusted neighbor pick it up, requiring signage for delivery, or installing cameras, it could prevent theft.

Similar preparations should also be made for any United States Postal Service (USPS) packages, as the service will also be making no regular mail deliveries on Labor Day.

Retail services at USPS locations will also be closed.

BANKING BLACKOUT

Financial institutions like Bank of America, Chase Bank, and Wells Fargo are also shutting down branches for 24 hours on Labor Day.

Each bank follows the Federal Reserve’s holiday schedule, which includes Labor Day.

While ATMs and mobile application services will still be accessible, it’s worth noting that transactions or transfers made on the day will likely remain pending until September 2.

Given that this holiday falls on the first of the month, and many Americans pay credit card bills and rent or mortgage payments then, they could be briefly delayed.

It’s best to plan ahead and make any necessary payments beforehand.

Typically, though, as long as the transaction details show that a payment was made on September 1, it won’t be considered late or subject to fees and penalties.

Stores are also closing or adjusting hours for the holiday.

Costco is also shutting down its over 600 warehouses nationwide on Labor Day, forcing shoppers to head to a top competitor.

Aldi is also adjusting its hours, and customers must double-check what their local store is doing.
