Apple is all set to launch the iPhone 17 series in September 2025, and new leaks suggest some unexpected changes. While the iPhone 17 Air is already creating news as Apple’s slimmest iPhone ever, a new report claims it could feature a titanium frame. Surprisingly, the Pro models this time may get aluminium instead.

Titanium for iPhone 17 Air, Aluminium for Pro Models?

According to Apple analyst Jeff Pu, the iPhone 17 Air will come with a titanium body, while the iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max will reportedly use aluminium frames. This is a major upgrade for a non-Pro model, as Apple has so far reserved titanium for its premium Pro models, starting with the iPhone 15 Pro series.

If this leak turns out to be true, it would mark a big change in Apple’s design strategy for iPhones. Titanium is stronger than aluminium but also heavier. That means Apple will need to strike a balance between durability and weight, especially since the iPhone 17 Air is expected to focus on portability.

iPhone 17 Air: Thinnest iPhone Yet

At a rumoured thickness of just 5.5mm, the iPhone 17 Air could be Apple’s slimmest phone to date – even slimmer than the iPhone 6 (6.9mm) and Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge (5.8mm).

However, there are a few concerns that come along with this ultra-thin profile. Thinner phones generally pack smaller batteries like we saw on the Galaxy S25 Edge that houses a 3,900mAh unit. The iPhone 17 Air is expected to offer a battery capacity between 3,000mAh and 4,000mAh. That might not be ideal for users who rely heavily on their devices.

A Design-Centric iPhone?

The iPhone 17 Air will likely be positioned as a design-centric alternative to the Pro models. With its titanium build and ultra-slim profile, it may attract users who want portability and style over top-tier performance. The model could bring a nostalgic value among fans of Apple’s older thin devices like the iPod Touch or iPhone 6, but with updated hardware, including the upcoming A19 chip.

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 series in early September. With less than two months to go, more official details are likely to emerge soon – until then, these leaks offer a glimpse at what could be Apple’s boldest design move in years.
