Just over one year after the Amarok 3.0 release after a six year hiatus that brought it to Qt5 and KDE Frameworks 5, Amarok 3.3 is out today as the first version taking it to Qt6 and KDE Frameworks 6.

Amarok 3.3 is out for taking this KDE music player into the Qt6 and KF6 world. Amarok’s audio engine also now makes use of GStreamer for audio playback. GStreamer is in use for the audio playback rather than KDE’s Phonon back-end.

With Amarok 3.3, the Qt5 and KDE Frameworks 5 support was short-lived with it now being removed in favor of Qt6 and KDE Frameworks 6 exclusively. Plus there are many bug fixes and other enhancements with this updated music player.
