Around 74 per cent are reporting outages with the streaming service, and 21 per cent on the Amazon Prime app.

Initial reports of outages began at just before 10am, as thousands of people shared they could not use the service.

The Downdetector map showed that London, Manchester, and Glasgow reported the most outages.

A post from Amazon Help on social media read: “We’re sorry to know that your Amazon Prime Video app is not working.

“We request you to reach out to our Amazon Prime Video support team.”

Frustrated users have been taking to social media, reporting outages for the platform.

One user wrote: “Just watching a film and it just went black.”

A second wrote: “Amazon Prime Video is down from one hour.”

Another agreed and said: “Mine’s down too.”

A fourth commented: “Your service is down world wide…”

Another added: “All fine until I updated the app yesterday now get sound but black screen – no video when streaming films and TV programs.”

Approximately 13 million people in the UK are signed up to Amazon Prime, with over 250 million subscribers across the UK.

The service is a one-stop entertainment platform, featuring movies, TV shows and live sport.

You can sign up to Amazon Prime for free for 30-days or an annual membership costs £95 a year or £8.99 a month.

Its most famous perk is free and fast deliveries and access to Prime Video – but there are lots of extra such as discounts on cinema trips.

You can pay for Prime Video-only for £5.99 a month – but this doesn’t include any of the other extras.
