Granada, Andalusia, Spain, 24th January 2024: New Samsung S24, Ultra smartphone in its box. Detail … [+]
Amazon has quietly become one of the cheapest places to buy smartphones in recent months. This became clear during the Black Friday shopping period with repeated Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra discounts.
The company has again slashed the price of the Galaxy S24 Ultra, beating Samsung’s own current sale. Right now, shoppers can pickup the Korean company’s flagship phone for $999.99, down from $1,299.99. That is $300 off, or a 23% discount.
Samsung’s own current Christmas sale has knocked $250 off the handset, bringing the price down to $1,049.99. Amazon has the better upfront price, as we have seen several times in recent months. This price cut is similar to the retailer’s early Black Friday deal that also discounted the handset by 23%. The new price, however, comes in at slightly less ($1,000.74 versus $999.99).
Amazon’s cheaper price doesn’t tell the full story, though. If you have a device to trade in then buying directly from Samsung may be the better option. Check out the trade-in valuation comparison between the two companies below.
Amazon’s poor trade in prices when buying the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra
- Galaxy S21 Ultra – $650 Samsung, $135 Amazon
- Galaxy Note 20 Ultra – $400 Samsung, $130 Amazon
- Galaxy S8 Plus – $300 Samsung, $5 (yes, $5) Amazon
- Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max – $300 Samsung, $140 Amazon
- Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max – $300 Samsung, $220 Amazon
- Google Pixel 5 – $300 Samsung, $35 Amazon
With the right phone to trade-in, you will pay far less than Amazon’s upfront price if you buy directly from Samsung. Without a device to trade in, Amazon’s offer remains the best out there for now.
It is worth pointing out that the Galaxy S25 Ultra is likely weeks away. Paying almost $1000 for a phone that will be replaced by a new model might not be the best option. The Galaxy S24 Ultra price will almost certainly drop after the Galaxy S25 is announced.
Samsung will also release the new phone with a handful of aggressive pre-order deals and trade-in prices. If you can hold off from buying the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, it might be worth waiting to see what prices look like at the end of January.
