Well, this is a pleasant surprise… Less than 24 hours after the AMD Computex 2025 keynote where better/more-timely ROCm support for client GPUs was brought up, AMD ROCm 6.4.1 is now officially released. With ROCm 6.4.1 there is formal support for RDNA4 GPUs, including the Radeon RX 9000 series consumer graphics cards.

Since yesterday the various ROCm “v6.4.1” Git tags began surfacing and now the formal ROCm 6.4.1 announcement has been published. ROCm 6.4.1 introduces the new ROCm-DS component for data science, various installer updates, many documentation updates, and various fixes and other mostly small refinements.

ROCm 6.4.1

Most Phoronix readers will find the most exciting aspect of ROCm 6.4.1 being official support for RDNA4 GPUs! ROCm 6.4.1 now officially supports not only the Radeon RX 9070 series but also the upcoming Radeon RX 9060 XT and Radeon AI PRO R9700 graphics.

These RDNA4 based GPUs are supported by ROCm 6.4.1 when using Ubuntu 24.04.2, Ubuntu 22.04.5, or RHEL 9.4/9.5 releases.

ROCm 6.4.1 Radeon GPU support

These RDNA4 GPU additions now join the Radeon RX 7900 series as the other officially supported consumer Radeon GPUs by ROCm. Of course, over time we hope to see a more fulfilling list and to see day-one product support. This release doesn’t yet advertise official support for the Ryzen AI MAX “Strix Halo” hardware.

More details on the ROCm 6.4.1 release can be found via rocm.docs.amd.com.
