The Mac mini is already one of the most compact, cost-effective yet very capable options in Apple’s range of desktops, but now it just got even better this Black Friday.

You can get a cool £100 saving on the Mac mini with an M4 chip, down to just £499. That’s with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, making it a decent-specced device for space savers.

The same desktop offers a $120 price cut on Amazon.com, to $479. This 20% discount isn’t too far off the 17% reduction in the UK, so that’s money back no matter where you are.

The Mac Mini was always good value in Apple’s lineup, but now it offers an almost unparalleled value proposition, particularly to those who might have been interested in the iMac.

Despite its small stature, the Apple Mac Mini with M4 (10 core CPU and 10 core GPU) is built specifically to run apps designed for Apple Intelligence (AI) and it is an absolute beast.

16GB of unified memory and a 256GB SSD mean that not only is the Mac Mini built for efficient data handling, but the 256GB storage under its hood is more than enough to hold key files on the computer without needing to rely on external drives.

Gigabit Ethernet is a blessing for those who need fast, dependable internet access for things like online meetings or just general research. When you couple that with its compatibility with iPhones and iPads, the Mac Mini’s appeal grows tenfold if you already reside within Apple’s ecosystem.

While you’ll need to buy a display, keyboard and mouse separately, the Mac Mini’s low-level footprint means that you’ll be hard pressed to find a more powerful yet more space-saving desktop, and for just £499, it’s a genuine bargain.

The Mac Mini M4 is a very good deal. The base £599/$599 configuration is a wonderfully capable machine for everyday use and it incredibly small too. This is what the Mac Mini should have been from the start of the M-series transition.

  • Fantastic design

  • Excellent performance even from the base model

  • Seriously tempting price

  • Good selection of ports

  • Internal upgrades push the price up very quickly
