Analogue 3D Game Console Rolls Out Throwback Transparent N64 Colors

Want to color your world with a time warp back to the 1990s? The Analogue 3D game system, a modern recreation of the Nintendo 64, is introducing new translucent colors that are an exact match to Nintendo’s 1999 “funtastic” series of color choices, Analogue announced on Monday.

Orders begin Dec. 10, and Analogue says systems will ship before Christmas. The standard black and white units will also be getting restocks, although these will ship in 2026.

The game systems will be available in eight different colors, just like the Nintendo 64 from back in the day. These include:

  • Jungle (green)
  • Ice (teal blue)
  • Watermelon (pinkish red)
  • Fire (orange)
  • Grape (purple)
  • Clear
  • Smoke (gray)
  • Gold (solid color, not translucent, Toys R Us exclusive)

The colored models will be priced at $300, $30 more than the standard black and white versions. Analogue is also partnering with 8BitDo, a third-party controller manufacturer, to offer matching controllers at launch for $45.

The 8BitDo 64 controller will also come in the eight throwback colors.

The “funtastic” colors will be available in highly limited quantities, according to the site.

In 2021, Analogue also made the Pocket, the company’s Game Boy-inspired handheld, available in similar limited-edition color choices. Prices for some Pocket colors have doubled on sites like eBay. Given the trend, it wouldn’t be surprising if Analogue continues to introduce new colors of the 3D, including aluminum variants at some point.

The news of new Analogue 3D colors comes as the company faces competition from ModRetro, another company that recreates retro gaming consoles. ModRetro released images of its M64 console last month, which will upscale original N64 cartridges in 4K and output them through HDMI for modern televisions. ModRetro’s design takes a more colorful approach when compared to Analogue, leaning into translucent colors and rounder edges. ModRetro plans on releasing the M64 in 2026.
