Fierce competition in China’s anime, comics, and gaming sector is expected this summer with the release of at least 11 ACG-style games scheduled for August, local media outlet GameLook reported on Monday. Two highlights among the list are Blue Archive by Nexon Games and CalabiYau by Tencent Games, which will both launch on August 3. At the time of writing, reservations for Blue Archives exceeded 4 million players, while CalabiYau’s pre-launch registrations amounted to 6 million players. In January, Blue Archives achieved a record-breaking monthly revenue of RMB 170 million ($24 million) in Japan, following its overseas release in February 2021. Other notable ACG games set to launch this month in China include the Millennium Tour and Thrud: Broken Heaven from Bilibili, and Fairy Tail from iQIYI, as the two major video streaming platforms attempt to enter the gaming market.
