If Apple TV+ has made a name for itself by producing many quality series, like Severance, Sugar, Silo, Slow Horses, Shrinking And other shows that do not all start with an S, we cannot forget that the streaming platform also knows how to produce solid feature films that allowed it to establish its reputation. And it’s not The Gorge who will come to prove to us the opposite.
A project that drew our attention in the first place because we could not define what he wanted to sell us beyond his cast. Judge rather: Anya Taylor-Joyr (Mad Max Furiosa, The Lady’s Game, The Witch and lots of other joyers) with Miles Teller (Whiplash, the Fantastic 4, Top Gun: Maverick) in front of Scott Derrickson’s camera (Sinister, Doctor Strange, Black Phone). On paper, three names that make you want and which normally find the way to the big screen – all our respect for the Svod service aside.
On the other hand, a poster and a synopsis that smell of a well -cliché young adult story, as he leaves the dozen in competition, Prime and Netflix in mind. From then on, we were in front of two options: either The Gorge was going to be the fantasy romance announced by the promotional campaign, with Anya and Miles who came to touch their checks; Either the film was going to be much more than that. And the miracle was.
But since we were talking about the script, here it is: two talented snipers each find themselves having to monitor a mysterious abyss at the top of their respective towers. Two instructions: do not never entered into communication with his counterpartand prevent everything in the abyss from getting out of it. Well, we made you the slightly less romantic version than the official synopsis which was racing a little on the links between our two shooters. We will come back to it around our three good reasons to throw you in The Gorge.
1 – A story that is not there to butter the sandwiches
Because yes, it must be admitted, the Apple TV+ feature film has a share of stated romance. The latter is, moreover, not necessarily one of its strengths, the story shipping the founding moment of the couple in a few minutes, as if it were in a hurry to move on. Just if ellipses will excuse the lack of matter concerning the expression of feelings.
It must be said that by choosing the film rather than the series, the script must fit a lot in just two hours of time. And there are things! Admittedly, as it stands, the pitch is rather simple and easy to follow. However, there are many elements to show and not all benefit from the same level of development, which can give a final act that is too expeditious to succeed.

Nevertheless, which is similar to a defect also makes the value of a project that is not afraid to offer us to drink and eat! THE film demonstrates a certain ambition Once in the throat, despite its lack of refining which sometimes gives it a fairly rude appearance. The Gorge Touches both action film, romance, horror film, science fiction … In short, an imperfect, but generous experience.
2 – The Queen’s Game
No matter how much we appreciate the talent of actor of Miles Teller, at the top of the poster, there is only one queen. One could have wondered what Anya Taylor-Joy had come to do in this project which felt the galley in full nose, however what we are happy to see her here. The actress is an energy ballcharming, and she proves after Furious That despite her small size, she can hold muscular sequences as well as her proud partner of her abs.
Where the character of Teller is more reserved, the whole energy load of the feature film is the responsibility of Anya which will be the real engine of the action and the scenario, in particular by systematically bringing the necessary touch of humor. Nevertheless, one can only remove his counterpart responds well with his own talent and if the first half of the film, centered almost only on the duo, works, it is because we have these two actors knowing how to occupy the space so well .

3 – Better adaptation of Resident Evil that the adaptations of Resident Evil
Then the events get carried away and Scott Derrickson resumes hand by making his experience speak in horror cinema. Once in the throat, the director will have fun playing with his colorimetric filters and a substantial and original bestiary. With its mixture of conspiracy, experimentation and well disgusting critters, The Gorge ends up looking like an Evil resident game where our heroes Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield must face all kinds of monsters and escape. Several sequences seem to be inspired by video games directly, to the point of making us want to take the controller at times.
In the end, The Gorge Perhaps does not have the potential to become a flagship product at Apple TV+, in particular because it remains highly perfectible on each of its aspects, as if we had wanted to make it a good film, but especially not more. However, it must be recognized that its primary mission is fulfilled: entertainment is ensured thanks to a charismatic cast and a video game artistic direction which has been able to have fun. Too bad the streaming platform does not yet have the success it deserves, because The Gorge would have been easily placed number 1 in any top 10 of the competition.
