Apple on Wednesday introduced a new 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by its M5 chip, which it said delivers up to 3.5 times faster performance in artificial intelligence tasks and longer battery life compared to previous models.

The laptop, running on Apple’s new macOS Tahoe system, features upgraded CPU and GPU cores, faster storage, and up to 24 hours of battery life. Apple said the new chip allows the device to run large language models and other AI applications locally without relying on cloud processing.

The MacBook Pro’s base model starts at $1,599 and will be available in space black and silver from Oct. 22. Apple said the device is made with 45% recycled materials and manufactured using 55% renewable electricity.

The launch marks Apple’s latest effort to boost on-device AI performance across its hardware lineup, as tech companies race to integrate AI capabilities directly into consumer devices.
