Apple Music pokes fun at latest Spotify price increase – 9to5Mac

Last month, Spotify announced a new round of price increases for subscribers in the United States and other countries. As the price increases start to go into effect starting with February renewals, Apple Music is poking fun at Spotify’s drama on social media.

Apple Music is also offering a free three-month trial right now.

Spotify price increases

As a refresher, here are the price increases for Spotify’s plans in the United States:

  • Spotify Premium: $11.99 to $12.99
  • Spotify Duo: $16.99 to $18.99
  • Spotify Family: $19.99 to $21.99
  • Spotify Student: $5.99 to $6.99

Spotify last increased US prices in June 2024, when Spotify Premium went from $10.99 to $11.99 in the United States. In 2023, that price went from $9.99 to $10.99, the service’s first ever price increase.

Spotify says that the latest price increase will let it “keep delivering a great experience.”

Apple Music piles on

As this latest Spotify price increase has started going into effect this month, Spotify Premium subscribers have taken to social media to voice their frustration.

In a post on social media today, Apple Music decided to poke a little fun: “BTW, we’re still the same price.”

It’s a clear jab at Spotify and frustrated subscribers.

When Apple Music launched in 2015, it was $9.99 per month. Apple implemented its first and only price increase for Apple Music in October 2022, bumping the individual plan to $10.99 per month. The price hasn’t changed since then.

So Apple Music is $2 per month cheaper for individual subscribers, but the big difference is the $5 per month in family plans. Apple Music is also offering a free three-month trial right now, available until February 24.

Apple Music is also included in the Apple One bundle plans, which include other services like Apple TV, Apple Arcade, Apple News+, and more.
