In a meeting with Li Chenggang, China’s International Trade Negotiator and Vice Minister of Commerce, Apple Chief Operating Officer Sabih Khan said Apple plans to continue its long-term development and investment in China. Here are the details.

Apple commits to long-term development in China

A couple of months ago, Apple CEO Tim Cook visited China and reassured Beijing that Apple remained committed to investing in the region.

His remarks came just as Apple registered a rebound in iPhone sales in the country, and amid continued uncertainty around U.S.–China trade relations, as Apple pushes to diversify its supply chain, particularly to India.

Now, another high-ranking Apple executive has reaffirmed the company’s commitment to China.

As reported by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China, Sabih Khan, who recently took over as Apple’s COO following the retirement of Jeff Williams, reiterated the company’s lonrg-term position during a meeting with Chinese officials.

From the translated report:

Sabih Khan said that Apple highly appreciates the capabilities and potential of China’s supply chain, and that Apple has long maintained a mutually beneficial and symbiotic relationship with its Chinese partners. Apple will continue to commit to long-term development in China, steadily increase investment in areas including the supply chain, research and development, and social welfare within China, adhere to a development path focused on intelligence, sustainability, and integration, and achieve mutual benefit and win-win outcomes.

During the last fiscal quarter, Greater China accounted for 14% of Apple’s total revenue. The country is also responsible for the bulk of Apple’s manufacturing and assembly, despite the company’s recent efforts to diversify production, particularly for U.S.-bound devices.

What’s your take on Apple’s move to reaffirm its commitment to China? Let us know in the comments.
