Apple TV is regarded by some observers as the home of expensive, high production value, prestige TV – as well as a top destination for original cinematic movies. The line-up of forthcoming titles revealed for the streaming service today will do little to dissuade that viewpoint.
Apple TV is holding its press day on February 3, which highlights a slew of new TV shows and movies on their way to the streaming service in the next few months. It is also announcing the release date for several shows already announced. Let’s dive right in with the highlights…
Lucky, starring Anya Taylor-Joy is a limited series based on the book of the same name. It’ll debut on July 15. It’s Taylor-Joy’s first major series since the Netflix hit The Queen’s Gambit.
“When a multi-million-dollar heist goes sideways, con artist Lucky (Anya Taylor-Joy) is forced to go on the run. Pursued by both the FBI and a ruthless crime boss, Lucky must fight for her life — and a way out,” the synopsis reads. Annette Bening and Timothy Olyphant also star, which is a huge bonus.

Apple also announced Outcome, a new feature-length dark comedy movie starring Keanu Reeves. It will premiere on the streaming service on April 10. Jonah Hill directs and appears alongside Reeves, while Cameron Diaz also stars.
Here’s the synopsis: “Outcome is a dark comedy that centres on Reef Hawk (Reeves), a beloved Hollywood star who must dive into the depths of his hidden demons after he is extorted with a mysterious video that’s sure to shatter his image and end his career. With the support of his lifelong besties, Kyle (Diaz) and Xander (Bomer), along with his crisis lawyer, Ira (Hill), Reef embarks on a soul-searching journey to make amends with anyone he could have possibly wronged in hopes of identifying the blackmailer.”
Apple has also confirmed the release date for its take on Cape Fear. Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg are on board as executive producers, which will be a series inspired by the two movies of the same name. Amy Adams and Javier Bardem front this psychological thriller. We don’t have a teaser for that yet either, but here’s the long and short of it.
“In “Cape Fear,” a storm is coming for happily married attorneys Amanda and Steve Bowden when Max Cady (played by Bardem), a notorious killer from their past, gets out of prison. The 10-episode series is a tense, Hitchcockian thriller and an examination of America’s obsession with true crime in the 21st century.”
Apple did offer a trailer for season two of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, as well as the newly-announced and Imperfect Women. The latter is another psychological thriller. The limited series will star Elisabeth Moss and Kerry Washington and debuts on March 18.
Based on Araminta Hall’s novel of the same name, “Imperfect Women” examines a crime that shatters the lives of a decades-long friendship of three women. The unconventional thriller explores guilt and retribution, love and betrayal, and the compromises we make that alter our lives irrevocably. As the investigation unfolds, so does the truth about how even the closest friendships may not be what they seem.
You can see the Imperfect Women trailer below. The announcements are still coming from the Apple TV press day so we’ll keep you posted.
