Apple is planning to alter it’s iPhone release schedule to account for semi-annual releases, according to a new report.

According to a report from The Information, from 2026 onwards Apple will launch the Pro models in the autumn before standard edition iPhone models will be held off until the spring.

The decision is being made, the reports say, to accommodate new models like the long-rumoured iPhone Fold, according to the report.

So when around September 2026 we might see the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, as well as the first ever foldable iPhone to sit among the best iPhone models.

The spring of 2027 would then see the iPhone 18, iPhone 18 Air and maybe the iPhone 18e, according to the report.

The report also offered purported insight into how the iPhone 18 Pro models would be further distinguished from the standard lines. The sources speak of under display selfie cameras and Face ID sensors, something which has been rumoured previously.

Following the report, the well known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo offers his own prediction for the iPhone release schedule over the next couple of years.

  • 2H25: iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Slim (or Air), iPhone 17
  • 1H26: iPhone 17e
  • 2H26: iPhone Foldable, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Slim
  • 1H27: iPhone 18, iPhone 18e
  • 2H27: iPhone Foldable 2, iPhone 19 Pro Max, iPhone 19 Pro, iPhone 19 Slim (or Air)

Opinion

This would make lots of success for Apple as it diversifies the iPhone line up. The standard iPhone models already feel lost in the shuffle amid the Pro and Pro Max phones. They’d be practically invisible once a Fold and Air phones come along. This will give every model in the range more time to shine.
