Apple is planning to launch its next AirTag 2 around the middle of the next year. As per report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the Airtag 2 is expected to make its debut with three noteworthy improvements as compared to its predecessor’s design. The next-generation AirTag has been spotted with a codename B589 and has been undergoing with tests and trials.
Gurman said, “I’m told the new version will look similar to the current model, but offer better range, bolster the onboard wireless chip and improve privacy.”
To recall, the first AirTag was launched in 2021 with a codename B389. The leaks emerged for the first AirTag in2019 and it took two years to the tech giant to unveil it. However, if that is the case we couldn’t expect the next AirTag 2 to launch early. However, reports claim that the AirTag 2 has been in the progress stage and manufacturing tests are ongoing. This means the Apple could launch its next AirTag with three major improvements: Improved Privacy, Range, and Wireless Chip.

What Improvements Can We Expect:
The first and foremost improvement that we can expect in the upcoming AirTag is the new onboard wireless chip, mot probably the Ultra-Wideband Chip (U2). The chip is expected to deliver better connectivity as compared to U1 chip present in the first AirTag launched in 2021.
Other than Chip, the company could bring some privacy improvements in the AirTag 2. It will also include the design change that will make it harder for people to remove the built-in speaker. This change is intended to prevent bad people from using AirTag (a small Bluetooth tracking device) to track someone without their consent, which is a form of stalking.
The upcoming AirTag 2 is some of the exciting devices that the Apple is planning to launch in early phase of 2025. The product could come alongside smart home display and some software updates.
