Apple's Speeding Through an Odd October and Winning

Apple is all about speed right now. It announced a deal to stream Formula 1 races on Apple TV on the same week it released an M5 chip upgrade for a faster iPad Pro, MacBook Pro and Vision Pro.

It’s typical to hear about chip upgrades in October. But there have been plenty of Apple surprise headlines. The iPhone Air is said to be a hot seller in China. The US Mint announced Steve Jobs will be on a $1 coin. And Tim Cook got his own Labubu doll.

There’s plenty of negative tech news this October, but somehow Apple has been dodging much of it. (Well, Apple Music couldn’t dodge the Amazon cloud services outage that took out major parts of the internet.) In this week’s episode of One More Thing, embedded above, I go over the biggest Apple news to digest this week, including a new Mac commercial that, for once, isn’t cringe.

I also got a chance to use the new Dual Knit Band for the Apple Vision Pro — and it’s made a big difference in comfort when using the headset.

But October isn’t over yet. Could Apple give us more good news with another product, like updated AirTags, or will this ride go off track? Recent headlines highlight how Apple helped finance the controversial White House ballroom, and there’s a new class-action lawsuit against Beats headphones. Perhaps Apple’s good-news boost is already out of gas.
