Generative Artificial Intelligence has dominated the technology conversation over the past year, but for Amazon Web Services (AWS), we’ve barely scratched the surface. In the new Orbital Vision 2026 yearbook, Ishit Vachhrajani, Global Lead of Generative AI Strategy at AWS, explains why the next evolutionary leap is not a more powerful tool, but a new teammate: the AI Agent.
If until now we have used AI as an oracle—we ask it a question and it gives us an answer—the immediate future involves systems capable of acting. It is the move from passive AI to Agentic AI.
In an exclusive interview included in Orbital Vision 2026Vachhrajani details how this technology is redefining the rules of the business game. According to the manager, we are facing a historical moment comparable to the arrival of the World Wide Web. “Artificial intelligence agents are as transformative as the advent of the Internet was,” says Vachhrajani. But what is the real difference?
More than tools, team members
The AWS manager explains in the interview that the big difference lies in autonomy and the ability to maintain long-term objectives. While a traditional chatbot waits for a precise instruction to execute an isolated task, an AI agent understands the context, plans a series of steps and executes complex actions to achieve an end goal.
“We must reimagine linear flows as dynamic, context-aware and adaptive processes in real time,” Vachhrajani notes in the yearbook. This implies that agents are not limited to automating repetitive tasks, but rather “they are not just tools, but team members” capable of making micro-decisions to unclog processes that previously required constant human supervision.
Reimagining workflows
During the entire conversation, we discuss how this technology is forcing companies to rethink their operations from the ground up. It’s not about doing the same thing faster, but about doing new things. Vachhrajani warns against the mistake of trying to fit this new technology into old molds and offers a roadmap for how organizations can begin to deploy these agents to generate real value, beyond the hype.
The interview also delves into the security challenges, the governance of these autonomous agents and how AWS is architecting the infrastructure necessary to support this new layer of business intelligence.
