AT&T ‘SplitPay’ Lets You Divide Monthly Phone Bills Across a Household

AT&T has a new way for subscribers to split their phone bill with family members and friends.

AT&T SplitPay is for those who pay for multiple phone lines through a single plan. If the bill becomes too hefty, the primary account holder can offload some of the financial burden to other users on the account.

“With AT&T SplitPay, you can automatically notify users on your account when their share of the bill is due,” the company said in a support video. “Each time a new bill comes out, users will receive a notification via text with their balance and a link allowing them to pay AT&T directly.”

SplitPay can calculate and divide monthly bills automatically. “Account owners remain responsible for the total bill amount due,” AT&T says. “But don’t worry, we’ll even follow up with the account owner before the due date if someone hasn’t paid their share.”

If the bill isn’t paid in full, then subscribers can expect an extra late payment fee and the potential suspension of service.

The company views the feature as a way to attract more subscribers looking to save through multi-line plans but might have refrained from doing so over the bill-paying hassle.

SplitPay can only be used on select postpaid accounts with multiple lines. It also requires that Autopay with a credit card is turned off. To activate the feature, the primary account holder needs to log in and configure SplitPay by assigning each phone line to a specific payer.
