This new increase in the Price of gas, announced by the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE), arouses strong concerns among households, already confronted with increasing inflation and constantly increasing energy bills.
An increase in the order of 2%
According to the latest data published by CRE, the price of the kilowatt hour of gas for gas heated households will reach € 0.12137 in March 2025, against € 0.11876 in February. This increase of 2.2% may seem modest, but it is part of a wider trend that sees the prices of gas breaking records month after month. Indeed, over the past 12 months, the price per kWh of gas has jumped by more than 30%, going from € 0.0,9291 in March 2024 to 0.12137 € in March 2025!
The price per kWh of gas for heating will pass 0.11876 € in February to 0.12137 € in March 2025an increase of 2.2%.
For use linked to cooking and hot water, the price will reach € 0.15 per kWh in March, against € 0.14 in February.
For a household cleaning of gas and consuming 11,200 kWh per year, this increase results in a significant increase in the annual bill. This will increase from € 1298 in March 2024 to 1637 € in March 2025, an increase of 26% over a year. This dizzying increase highlights the extent of the challenge faced by French consumers, who see their purchasing power nibbled by constantly increasing energy costs.
The reasons for this increase are multiple
The increase in supply costs, the increase in taxes, the costs related to the routing and the storage of gas are all factors that contribute to this outbreak of prices. In addition, the excise on gas (TICGN) experienced an increase of 4.8% in January 2025, going from € 16.37 to € 17.16 per MWh, which also contributed to the increase in prices .
Unfortunately for consumers, the prospects for the coming months are hardly more pleasing. According to Selectra forecasts, the price of gas should continue to increase until June 2025! The month of April 2025 could even be the most expensive in history, with an annual bill estimated at € 1,848 for a typical cleaning. This upward trend should continue until June, before starting a possible drop in the second half of the year …
Is gas heating still interesting?
It is important to note that this increase in gas prices occurs in a complex energy context. While the price of electricity experienced a drop of 15% for 70% of French households in February 2025, following the end of the price shield, gas continues its ascent. This disparity between the two energy sources could encourage certain households to reconsider their heating mode, although the change of installation represents a substantial investment.
Experts recommend comparing the offers of the various gas suppliers carefully, the prices that can significantly vary from one operator to another. It is also advisable to favor offers at fixed prices, which make it possible to protect yourself against short -term market fluctuations.
