It’s pretty amazing how Chromebooks went from a clumsy experiment to an actually viable portable computing platform in the space of just a couple years. When testing laptops in the PC Labs, we’ve seen how Google has upgraded its ChromeOS to make it a legitimate competitor in the portable PC space. It’s power-efficient, fast, resistant to malware and viruses, specializes in cloud applications, and offers extensive battery life. No matter what you need a laptop for, there’s a Chromebook that will get it done at a price that will impress you.

Best Deals on Chromebooks Right Now

HP Chromebook 14

Acer Chromebook Vero 514

Even with high-end build quality and bright, clear screens, you’ll find it hard to spend more than a few hundred dollars on a powerful and portable Chrome OS laptop. But the savings don’t stop there. We’ve hunted down the best-reviewed models from top brands like Asus, Lenovo and more and found impressive offers. Here are the best Chromebooks you can pick up at a big price cut this October.

Let’s lead off with a tremendous Chromebook that we gave an Editors’ Choice award to in our review, with expert Brian Westover saying that it was “one of the best performing ChromeOS laptops we’ve seen” thanks to a sturdy but flexible aluminum and plastic chassis, perky Core i3 processor and decent RAM loadout. The Chromebook Plus platform pushes the operating system to new levels of capability, and this model comes with a ton of nice perks, like a USI pen-compatible touchscreen, backlit keyboard and 1080p webcam. Best Buy has it on sale for $50 off list price.

Asus Chromebook Plus CX34

It’s not the biggest deal in the yard today, but even a 10% price drop on an Editors’ Choice-winning Chromebook is worth your attention, especially when it’s an ultra-budget high performer like the Asus Chromebook Plus CX34. In our review, we praised its comfortable keyboard and touchpad, generous allocation of ports, and attractive design. Of course, for a little over two hundred bucks there are going to be compromises, with battery life merely adequate and a little flex in the all-plastic chassis. This is an Amazon-renewed unit, restored to factory quality.

Lenovo Chromebook Duet Gen 9

Here’s another Lenovo Chromebook, this one an affordable detachable that we gave a glowing review to, noting that the Duet Gen 9 had an incredibly high-quality build for how little it cost, and when you throw in an additional 33% price cut at Best Buy it’s even more attractive. The crisp 2K touchscreen is responsive and looks nice, although it’s not super bright. Internally, this is a basic Chromebook model, tuned for cloud-based computing and with up to 12 hours of battery life and Fast Boot it’ll keep you going all day.

HP Fortis G1m Chromebook

Chromebooks take a beating in classroom situations, so HP’s Fortis line is designed to invest in drop and crack protection with MIL-STD 810H durability certification, textured panels for better grip and easier cleaning and disinfecting, and decent performance. We haven’t had a hands-on with this model, but we did an overview of the latest Fortis line, noting that they were capable portables that can really take a licking and keep on ticking. An 11% price drop makes this one a good choice for clumsy customers.

Chromebooks for gaming? Believe it! While this portable obviously isn’t going to push the power of a standard PC gaming laptop, it’s a tremendous value for cloud-based services thanks to a bright, crisp WQXGA display with a 120Hz refresh rate. In our review, we were impressed by the laptop’s responsive keyboard, a Lenovo staple, as well as its anti-ghosting feature to prevent erroneous keypresses. The build quality is excellent for a sub-$400 laptop, and it has tons of ports for all your controllers. Walmart has a nice $84 discount on this one.

HP Chromebook x360 14

at Walmart

At retail price, we’d think twice about recommending the HP Chromebook x360 14, but with this big discount courtesy of Walmart, it becomes a much more attractive proposition. In our review, we noted that it had fairly snappy performance and a nice-looking design, but the FHD display wasn’t as bright and crisp as we’d like. The 360-degree hinge makes it an adaptable option for presentations, watching media, light creative apps, and everyday activities.

We gave an “Excellent” rating to the Acer Chromebook Vero 514 in our review, with writer Eric Grevstad saying that the portable was “a fast and well-equipped premium Chromebook,” while also highlighting its eco-friendly construction. The MIL-STD 810H construction is beefy and a little heavy, but the internal components are good for the price, with a peppy processor and decent RAM. It’s a very capable productivity system with a nice $100 price cut right now.

NewEgg has some Chromebooks on sale right now, and this $100 price drop on an Acer Chromebook 314 is definitely worth checking out. With a quad-core processor and a non-touch 14-inch screen, it’s fast enough to handle general tasks without any problems. The internal storage is a little skimpy with just 32GB of eMMC to work with, but it’s a breeze to plug in an external drive or just work entirely with cloud apps. Battery life is gargantuan, with Acer saying that it lasts 20 hours between plug-ins.

HP is well known for budget hardware, and that makes it a good company for Chromebooks. Although the silicon loadout of this machine is pretty dated, it doesn’t matter much because Chrome OS can make the most of it. The latest 14-inch model is housed in a sturdy plastic case with three USB-C ports and a True Vision HD camera for videoconferencing, and the full HD IPS display is acceptably bright and clear. Of course, battery life is premium, with up to 14 hours of use in between charges. Target has a $80 discount right now, making it a serious bargain.

FAQ

Why Are Google Chromebooks So Cheap?

If you’re a little suspicious, thanks to the low prices on most Chromebooks, you might be wondering why they are so affordable. We go deep into the differences in our “Laptop Vs. Chromebook” feature, but in short, Chromebooks run the much more limited Google ChromeOS, which prioritizes the Chrome web browser, Google Drive cloud storage, and extensions from the Chrome Web Store and Google Play Store. They’re significantly less flexible and customizable than your basic Windows laptop.

How Much Should I Pay for a Chromebook?

With low pricing still one of the most popular reasons to pick up a Chromebook, you should be able to get a capable model for $350 at the absolute maximum. The more advanced Chromebook Plus models can go up to four figures, but for most users, those aren’t necessary, and you’d be better suited with a traditional Windows laptop. You can get a reliable HP, Acer, or Lenovo Chromebook for $250-to-$300.

What Is the Cheapest But Best Chromebook?

Chromebooks, in general, come in lower on the price scale than Windows or Mac laptops, but the trade-off is that they’re often lower-powered in terms of processor speed, memory, and internal storage. Buying a decent one is all about finding the best value for money. In our roundup of the best Chromebooks, we recommend the Acer Chromebook Plus 514 for budget shoppers for its lengthy battery life, decent touch screen, AI enhancements, and a broad array of ports for the price.

What to Look for in a Chromebook Deal?

Our Chromebook buying guide has some key metrics to consider when buying one of these inexpensive laptops. Chromebooks typically have less hardware variability than Windows laptops, but we recommend an Intel Core processor and 8GB of memory for today’s web apps and decent multitasking. If you need more punch, look for an Intel Core Ultra chip. ChromeOS is optimized for touch-screen use, so it’s worth getting a model that supports that.

Best Chromebook Deals Under $300?

$300 is the sweet spot for Chromebook pricing, and in our rundown of the best budget laptops, we spotlight the impressive Lenovo Chromebook Duet Gen 9. This detachable touch-screen model is pixel-dense and high in build quality for $329.99. It’s tough to find a 2-in-1 Chromebook for much cheaper than this, and this price is likely to come down during sales events.

What Are the Biggest Chromebook Discounts This Year, and How Much Can I Save?

The aforementioned Lenovo Chromebook Duet is one of the best deals in Chromebooks this year, even at its list price, but we haven’t seen that many extreme price cuts on Chromebooks so far in 2025.

Are Chromebooks Cheaper During Amazon Prime Day or Cyber Monday?

Of course! Expect to see Chromebooks dip below these list prices during those shopping holidays, getting back to the sub-$300 prices we’ve been used to. However, be sure to focus on specs and stats when buying your next Chromebook to get the features and capabilities you want.

Are Chromebooks Discounted During Back-to-School Sales?

Yes! Back-to-school sales generally begin as the school year ends in June in the US and kick into high gear through July. They start to simmer down in August and fall off by the end of September. Throughout that time, retailers carry Chromebook discounts across subcategories.

Which Retailers Have the Biggest Chromebook Discounts?

Generally speaking, Amazon carries the largest and most frequent discounts on Chromebooks, with Walmart following closely behind or in lockstep. Best Buy and other electronics retailers also have deals on Chromebooks.
