The casting itself is already a call for viewing since the production of the streaming platform can count on two headliners well known to Marvel fans. Jon Bernthal, alias Le Punisheras a detective, and Tessa Thompson, Thor’s Valkyrieas a journalist; a fiery duo launched into a murder investigation, unless one of them is the culprit. A whole program for this six-episode miniseries.
The story of His & Hers
It’s been a year since Anna (Tessa Thompson), former star news anchor for a local channel, has been living as a recluse in Atlanta. She cut herself off from everything, family and friends. When a murder takes place in the peaceful town of Dahlonega, the town where she grew up, she sees it as a great reporting opportunity, in order to return to the forefront.
For his part, Inspector Jack Harper (Jon Bernthal) is in charge of the investigation, but his hidden link with the victim could make him the main suspect. Anna’s sudden interest begins to make her doubt the young woman’s involvement. When there are two sides to a story, then one is lying.
A series that is easily devoured
To protect you from spoilers, our opinion will not contain any major revelations surrounding His & Hers. And it’s not an easy task, since there are loads of them! All we can tell you about the story itself and its twists and turns is that the few lines of description above are only valid for the first fifteen minutes.

Because the series piloted by Dee Johnson – who worked on Urgences, Nashville, Zero Day… in short, a spawn from the environment – contains a good bunch of twists. Obviously, not everyone can be at the same level and if some are easily guessedothers manage to substantially modify our perception of the plot. Nevertheless, the strength of the show is to knowing how to skilfully blur the lines to tickle the investigator inside the viewer.
Each episode will thus give us answers, never complete, so that we can piece together the puzzle piece by piece. When we think we have guessed, a new element will come to counterbalance our certainties. Is it sometimes a bit big and leads to some inconsistencies? Obviously. Except that it must be admitted, it is easy to get caught up in the game. The mechanics are well oiled and know how to be efficient.

Especially since with an average duration of 40 minutes, His & Hers avoid stretching the unnecessaryeven sometimes we would have liked to see more, especially around the secondary characters, underexploited. Once again, without revealing the ending, there are some hasty endings among the subplots, as if the show, happy to have accomplished its task, launched into a big fire sale of the rest to be paid. But without having read the news, we cannot say whether these blunders are due to it or to its adaptation.
His & hers
Obviously, the other force of His & Hers is embodied in his duet. It is good to see Jon Bernthal, accustomed to works where he plays on his physique, embrace a more emotional game. He reminds us of his masterful scenes in The Bearthis kind of damaged character, on edge, for whom it would take nothing to swing from one side to the other. Which makes him as credible as a suspect as a sincere investigator, because it is impossible to predict which way the scales have tipped.
Tessa Thompson plays her impose. A woman who lost everything, believing that life could not damage her further. She is an almost expressionless figure, barely allowing herself to be herself again. Where Jack approaches the abyss, Anna returns from it, she’s a survivor. Their life paths differ, hence, ultimately, the few sequences together. And when, in a masterful scene, the two drop their masks, lower their guard, to speak directly from heart to heart, the casting choice seems obvious.

His & Hers is the kind of small candy that goes from point A to point B without detour, without superfluity (isn’t it The Beast in Me ?), whose thriller codes work perfectly well. Everything is in its place. We let ourselves be carried away by the situations and the wonderful acting, going from revelation to revelation. And too bad if, sometimes, the series cheats a little by sweeping credibility under the rug, we come away with obvious satisfaction. The year 2026 is off to a good start on the streaming platform!
