On September 20, Denza, the BYD brand specializing in high-end electric vehicles, officially unveiled its new model, the Z9GT. This first model of the Z series was successfully launched, already posting more than 5,000 firm orders in the first 36 hours of its marketing, according to an announcement posted on Weibo.

Among these orders, the 2,010 copies of the limited edition were sold in record time, which illustrates the appetite of enthusiasts for this unique model. Please note that these firm orders are accompanied by non-refundable deposits, unlike pre-sale orders.
The Denza Z9GT range comes in several variants, including three plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models and two all-electric (BEV) models. These vehicles are available from 334,800 yuan (or around €46,000), and prices can go up to around €53,000 for the most high-end versions.
The Denza Z9GT stands out for the integration of BYD’s e3 technology, a system derived from the e4 usually reserved for ultra-luxury models. It enhances the handling and driving capabilities of this sports sedan by allowing steering of the rear wheels. The car displays impressive performance: with an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds for the electric versions, and a turning radius of only 4.62 meters, it establishes itself as a strong competitor on the high-end vehicle market.
The hybrid variants, meanwhile, combine a 200 kW electric motor at the front and two 220 kW motors at the rear, for only slightly slower acceleration that hits 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds. In addition, these PHEV models have a 2.0 T thermal engine, which allows them to display a combined range of up to 1,100 kilometers when fully charged.
Denza, initially founded in 2010 as a joint venture between BYD and Daimler, is now entirely under the control of BYD. After acquiring 90% of the brand’s shares in 2022, BYD finalized the total purchase of Mercedes-Benz shares at the beginning of September 2024. This acquisition allows the Chinese manufacturer to strengthen its position in the electric vehicle market premium, completely freeing itself from its former German partner.
In addition to the Z9GT, Denza plans to launch the Z9 model, a sedan that will complement the Z range in the coming months. According to Zhao Changjiang, sales manager at Denza, deliveries of this new car are expected to begin as early as November.
