Bosch participates in the European Alfie project to develop an ethical and biased AI

Bosch has become Technological Partner of the European Project Alfie (Assessment of Learning Technologies and Frameworks for Intelligent and Ethical AI), an inacitive financial por the EU Y which promotes the creation of AI solutions accessible, reliable and In line with European social and democratic values.

The consortium that is developing the initiative is composed of 10 entities from six countries, among which there are European universities, research centers and private companies, such as Bosch. The Alfie project wants to offer an ethical, transparent and accessible AI, which integrates and addresses ethical considerations in its development, democratizing AI and empiolating all people. Also promote a solid environment with respect to AI in the European Union.

The Alfie Consortium is developing an IA ecosystem that combines innovation with ethical commitment, and is currently developing two bases for this: Ethitech dialogue Hub (ETD Hub) and Automl Platform. The first is a dialogue platform in which experts in AI, legislators, jurists and citizens exchange ideas about the ethical and legal use of AI.

The second is an automated tool for the creation and evaluation of AI models that can be used without having advanced technical knowledge. Bosch’s work is to contribute to the design of his algorithms, architecture and ethical standards of the platform, ensuring that the resulting models are auditable, explainable and in accordance with the European Regulation of AI.

Both solutions are based on a modular, scalable and transferable architecture to various educational and organizational contexts throughout the EU. Bosch Spain, specifically, is in charge of the work package “Validation of use cases”, which will show the capabilities of the Automl platform, and will have the aim of offering a practical representation of how users, including professionals without experience in Machine Learning, can take advantage of it for their specific tasks.

In this case, Bosch Spain will be in charge of demonstrating and validating the Automl platform in an industrial environment, through process automation, the analysis of large volumes of data, and customer experience.

On June 2 and 3, the Alfie consortium met at the Bosch Spain headquarters in Madrid, with the aim of holding the first general assembly of the project. The second day, in addition, a group of external actors, among which there were lawyers and experts in GDPR, data science and accessibility, as well as end users, participated in a simulation of the Information Technology Development Center, which contributed valuable information to the project team, with the aim of continuing to advance in the principles that should guide the development of AI in Europe.

Bosch has more than 25 years of experience in AI, as well as software development and data process and embedded. The company is dedicated, among other things, to the design of AI tools, and plans to invest more than 2.5 billion euros in AI until the end of 2027. It also aspires to generate more than 10,000 million euros in sales are solutions based on AI for the next decade. Bosch has submitted more than 1,500 requests for patents in AI in the last five years.
