Bose has announced it’s launching three new products with a new true wireless and two new speakers.

The true wireless is no less than the QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds 2nd Gen. It’s been less than two years since the five-star QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds launched, a pair that this site feels offers the best noise-cancelling experience on the market.

Two new portable speakers will be added to Bose’s wireless range in the SoundLink Plus and SoundLink Micro 2nd Gen.

Bose vs Sony true wireless face-off?

It’s expected that Sony will launch the WF-1000XM6 model in the next few months, but it would appear Bose has beaten it to the punch with the QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen).

We can’t think of another year where Bose and Sony have (or might have) launched competing products so close. They usually like to stay a fair distance away from each other.

But, if Sony do indeed release the WF-1000XM6 this year, then it’s fight night in terms of true wireless supremacy with our current overall favourite, the Technics EAH-AZ100, waiting in the wings.

Of course, in order for Bose to reign supreme, it has to bring some upgrades to the table.

It continues to support the proprietary CustomTume sound calibration introduced via previous models, but on top of this will be an updated AI algorithm to improve the ActiveSense technology in the buds’ Aware mode.

Bose claims it’ll be able to handle sudden spikes in noise more smoothly, preventing audio from being smothered up by a nearby sound.

Bose say they’ve also improved the call quality, an area we found to be rather average, with a new AI-powered noise suppression system to reduce background sounds while amplifying the speaker’s voice.

The design has been tweaked, the eartips feature a guard to prevent wax build-up, making it easier to remove that gunk over time.

The Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds 2nd Gen will support wireless charging at launch, although disappointingly, overall battery life hasn’t changed at six hours (four with immersive audio). A 20-minute quick charge provides two more hours.

The new QC Ultra Earbuds will continue to support aptX Adaptive Bluetooth, and those with compatible smartphones will be able to enjoy Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Sound for the highest quality sound. Price stays the same at £299, with the buds available from June 26th.

Bose shores up its wireless speaker line-up

After launching the excellent, award-winning SoundLink Max, Bose is launching two more portable speakers.

The SoundLink Plus sits between the Max and the new SoundLink Micro 2nd Gen speaker; offering a rich sound and tough, IP67 rated design that’s shock and rust resistant, as well as being water- and dustproof.

The speaker can float in the water and features a “rugged” utility nylon rope attached to its side for clipping onto other things or carrying about.

20 hours of playtime will get owners through most of the day, and the SoundLink Plus can be used as a battery to charge smartphones and other devices.

The new SoundLink Micro completes the SoundLink family with a pocketable design that makes it the easiest to carry about. It too is rated at IP67, and features a removable loop handle for transporting about.

Any two speakers from the current SoundLink family can be paired together to amplify sound; while Stereo and Party mode are supported across the range. Both the new speakers support Bluetooth 5.3, and there’s Google Fast Pair for a quick connection to an Android device.

The SoundLink Plus is priced at £249 and goes on sale June 26th. The SoundLink Micro 2nd Gen has a date of late summer, and is priced at £119.
