Box64 0.3.4 is out today as the newest version of this open-source Linux x86_64 user-space emulator that runs on ARM64 as well as RISC-V 64-bit and LoongArch 64-bit systems.

Box64 is one of the exciting ways to be able to run Linux x86_64 binaries on AArch64 Linux systems and increasingly well for RISC-V and LoongArch but AArch64 (ARM64) remains one of the primary focuses. With Box64 0.3.4 the BOX32 code is now able to run the Steam gaming client on at least ARM64 but not for other architectures.

Today’s Box64 release does improve the RISC-V 64-bit back-end so that it’s faster and more stable along with supporting newer ISA extensions like RVV 1.0 and xThreadVector.

Box64 can also now emulate the Windows system calls when using Proton and having 48-bit address space support. Plus there is support for more opcodes, experimental support for GDB JIT, reworked CPU ID handling, improved memory tracing, numerous Dynarec enhancements, and a variety of other improvements to this emulator.
