BYD has emerged as the biggest seller of passenger vehicles in Singapore in 2024, bumping Toyota off the top spot, and marking the first time a Chinese brand has topped the list in the country, according to statistics published by the Land Transport Authority. The Chinese electric vehicle giant sold a total of 6,191 cars across the country, accounting for 14.4% of all new car registrations last year and representing more than a threefold increase from the previous year. Second-ranked rival Toyota also saw a strong increase of 49% year-on-year by selling 5,736 units last year, while BMW retained its third-place ranking with 5,042 registrations. Tesla also enjoyed a very successful year in the Southeast Asian country with registrations almost tripling to 2,384 units, putting the US carmaker in fifth place overall. [The Straits Times]
