It was on August 22, 2025 that the YANGWANG U9 Xtreme achieved its feat: 6 minutes 59.157 seconds over the 20.832 km German circuit, more than five seconds better than the previous record in the category. A performance which marks the rise in power of electric hypercars, now capable of competing with the most prestigious thermal cars on this circuit nicknamed “the Green Hell”.
This record comes in addition to another recent feat, the maximum speed of 496.22 km/h reached in Papenburg barely a month ago. Two feats in quick succession which position YANGWANG, BYD’s young premium brand, as an already essential player in the very high-end electric market!
A development designed for the Green Hell
Since July 2024, YANGWANG engineers have been carrying out tests on the Nürburgring in order to refine the behavior of the U9 Xtreme. The work has paid off since the supercar benefits from a chassis developed for extreme conditions, with a completely revised cooling system, carbon-ceramic brakes in titanium alloy, and GitiSport e·GTR² PRO semi-slick tires developed in partnership with Giti Tire.
At the controls, Moritz Kranz, an experienced German driver and circuit specialist, was able to exploit the full potential of this extraordinary machine. “The Nordschleife is the most demanding track in the world; our chrono illustrates the level of development reached by BYD and YANGWANG“, he commented after his record lap.
A unique technological showcase
Under its bodywork sculpted for performance, the U9 The whole unit delivers more than 3,000 horsepower, or a dizzying power-to-weight ratio of 1,217 hp per ton!
It also incorporates the intelligent DiSus-X system, a unique chassis attitude control device that allows body position to be adjusted in real time to optimize grip and stability. This allows for formidable efficiency both in a straight line and in a curve, on a route as varied as that of the Nürburgring.
An ultra-limited series for collectors
Symbol of exploration and excess, the U9 Xtreme will be produced in only 30 units. Its name evokes the limit, the letter X representing the unknown, the pioneering spirit and the quest for the ultimate. A philosophy that Stella Li, executive vice-president of the BYD group, sums up well: “We are constantly pushing the boundaries of technology. The U9 Xtreme proves that an electric car can be as efficient as it is emotional.”
In just three years of existence, YANGWANG has gone from being an innovation laboratory to being a brand capable of breaking the most emblematic automobile records. What if the future of pure performance was now written to the rhythm of electric motors?
