Camera Intelligence is pitching a new kind of mirrorless camera with a built-in generative editing – except it’ll cost you $7 a month to use.

We’ve known about the crowdfunded camera known as Caira for a little while now, but it wasn’t clear how much the Gemini 2.5 Nano Banana subscription was going to cost. But, thanks to the eagle-eyed team over at Digital Camera World, we now know that the in-camera edits sit behind a $7/£5.33 per month Caira Pro subscription.

This will allow you to make edits on-the-fly like changing the outfit of your subject, blend images together, and apply the style of one image to an object in another. The Pro subscription also includes a feedback assistant that will apparently give you actionable insight on composition and framing.

Of course, you don’t have to buy the Pro subscription to use Micro Four Third interchangeable lens mirrorless system. You can still use MagSafe to pop it on your iPhone and take pictures to your hearts content. But without it, you’re missing the camera’s main selling point, which is to make photography – and its steep learning curve – easier for newcomers.

Whether this will go down well or not remains to be seen, but if you want a good camera that’s easy to use and helps you learn along the way, then the Caira might be for you.

Preorders are live now on Kickstarter, with prices starting from $695/£534. Shipping is targeted for early 2026.
