If you’ve ever wondered how many folds a latest Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 can really handle, a Korean YouTuber is trying to find out. The tech-it channel has been streaming a marathon durability test, manually folding and unfolding the phone up to 200,000 times, that too live. And yes, it is still happening at the time of writing!
The interesting part is that just human hands opening and closing the phone over and over again. The idea is to mimic real-life use as closely as possible, the video suggested. Samsung rates the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s hinge for 500,000 folds under controlled lab conditions. That’s far more than the YouTuber’s target, but this test adds a difficulty level that the folding is happening without long breaks, which could put more strain on the hinge.
The plan is to do 40,000-50,000 folds a day. Along the way, the YouTuber stops at milestones to check the phone’s health, from hinge feel to display performance.
What’s Happening To The Phone
The first hiccup came early, with a “forced reboot error” appearing every 10,000 folds after the 6,000 mark. By 46,000 folds, the hinge began making slight creaking noises. At around 75,000 folds, a mysterious black liquid appeared briefly from the hinge but didn’t return.
By 105,000 folds, the crease down the middle was more noticeable, but the display itself stayed fully functional. The bigger issue came at 175,000 folds, when both the top and bottom earpieces stopped working. The hinge also became smoother, losing some of its original elasticity.
The 200,000-Fold finish line is still a bit far. So far, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is capable of handling 140,000 folds easily. Hence, we will have to wait till the end of the video.
