ON the surface, Power Sink looks like a run-of-the-mill game that is oceans apart from other big hitters.

But take the plunge and you’ll soon discover one of the most charming and challenging 3D puzzle-platformers around at the moment.

Deep Sink offers a beautifully simple yet, at times, head-scratching challenge which is set in an ever-changing environment that soothes the soul the further down you go.

You play a deep-sea diver with a mission to restore power to underwater platforms after the lights go out.

You can’t help but think of BioShock as you drift around the enchanting underworld in an oversized metal diving suit.

But instead of Big Daddy with a massive drill silencing the psychotic screams of the Splicers, Power Sink opts for a more peaceful outing in the deep blue abyss.

Each level requires you to connect circuits to light a final beacon so you can continue in your sub to the next platform.

These start off with pretty simple puzzles – jump from one ledge to the next with an air vent to reach a switch and flick the lights on.

But this soon becomes a lot more challenging. In later levels you have to work out what power node links to what switch and time shutting down the power to perfection so a weighted sphere can land on a box at the right place.

There’s plenty of trial and error but also plenty of planning that needs to be done. And it’s a lovely setting to just sit and map out your next move, as the colourful fishes scuttle about you.

But with these more intense levels comes a greater sense of achievement when completed.

And there are plenty of new devices and ways of traversing the rigs that pop up as your journey continues. This keeps the levels fresh and non-repetitive. Although it would have been nice to see a few more levels, it’s an incredible bundle for just £11.

The deeper you descend the more vibrant and enchanting the world around you becomes. There is a fantastic soundtrack too with creaky old platforms and atmospheric echoes completing this submerged sensation.

Power Sink is a game you will come back to over and over again, even after completion.

When there’s so much noise on the surface with manic AAA games demanding every ounce of your being, it’s a lovely break to submerge yourself in a little gem like this.

It really will take your breath away.
