China Grants Exemptions for Nexperia Car Chips After EU Tensions | HackerNoon

China has announced that it will grant exemptions for Nexperia chips related to car production, reported the BBC on Nov. 9th.

Nexperia is based in the Netherlands but is owned by a Chinese company named Wingtech. Wingtech sends its chips from the Netherlands to China for the finishing touches and then sends the chips to various countries.

However, in October of this year, the Dutch government took control of Nexperia. China then announced that it would block exports of the chip.

Car companies that use this chip include Volkswagen and Jaguar Land Rover, both of which announced that the chip blockage would directly impact them.

EU trade commissioner Maros Sefcovic said this regarding China granting the car production-related exemption:
