Leaked images of what could be a long wheelbase version of Audi’s A5 Sportback have appeared online ahead of the car’s launch due early next year, showing the SAIC collaboration becoming wider, longer, and lower. The German luxury carmaker expects the long-awaited, China-made sportback, renamed A5L and equipped with assisted driving technologies from Huawei, to offer consumers in China ample cabin space, Chinese media outlet Mingjing Pro reported. The A5L could be a rare gas-powered luxury vehicle to feature advanced driver assistance capabilities for highway and urban driving in the B-class segment, in which vehicles are usually longer than 4.5 meters in length, company sources told National Business Daily. Audi and SAIC, a long-time partner of Volkswagen in China, announced in May that they would co-develop a platform for EVs for the Chinese market. [Mingjjing Pro, National Business Daily, in Chinese]
