China plans to release its country’s first national standard for automotive solid-state batteries, Solid-State Batteries for Electric Vehicles — Part 1: Terminologies and Classification, in July 2026. A draft for public consultation was completed in December 2025. The standard will define key industry terms, including liquid batteries, hybrid solid-liquid (semi-solid-state) batteries and solid-state (all-solid-state) batteries, aiming to reduce confusion over technical concepts and provide a unified framework for development.

The move is expected to support supply-chain coordination and accelerate the shift from laboratory research to large-scale commercialisation, as China seeks to strengthen its position in next-generation battery technologies. [Cailian Press, in Chinese]
