Chinese automaker GAC is ramping up its overseas push with the debut of a budget electric vehicle model featuring an instant connection with mobile devices and a spacious interior for passengers and cargo at an expected price tag of RMB 100,000 ($13,820).

The third global model under GAC’s electric vehicle marque Aion, the Aion UT is a compact hatchback with a wheelbase of 2,750 millimeters, but offers the most back-row legroom in its class with 905 mm of space, according to the company. The budget car is also equipped with a 14.6-inch infotainment dashboard screen and an 8.8-inch instrument cluster, and is compatible with Apple’s CarPlay, Huawei’s HiCar, and CarLink for connecting with smart mobile devices. CarLink is a smartphone mirroring system developed by China’s Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo.

GAC, a long-time manufacturing partner of Toyota in China, also announced a lofty goal of annual export sales of 500,000 cars and entry into 100 global markets by 2027, up from the 75,800 units it shipped overseas last year. In October, the company delivered more than 9,000 units of the refreshed Aion V, the first global model under the Aion brand, three months after its launch, and has received more than 40,000 orders for the Aion RT sedan, which went on sale earlier this month.
