Chinese large model startup Moonshot AI is reportedly close to completing a new funding round worth several hundred million dollars, according to Chinese outlet Z Finance. The company has not yet responded to requests for comment.

Moonshot AI last raised about $300 million in August 2024 at a post-money valuation of over $3.3 billion, with investors including Alibaba and Tencent. The firm’s Kimi chatbot regained public attention in July with the launch of its upgraded Kimi k2 model, which drew strong reactions both in China and Silicon Valley after investors such as Chamath Palihapitiya and Vercel CEO Guillermo Rauch publicly praised its performance.
