China’s Ministry of Commerce announced that as of October 22, 2025, applications for the national vehicle trade-in subsidy program have surpassed 10 million. Among them, more than 3.4 million applications were for scrappage and renewal, while over 6.6 million were for vehicle replacements. The program has played a key role in promoting the green transition of the auto industry. New energy vehicles accounted for 57.2% of total trade-in applications this year. The country’s resource recycling efforts have also advanced. In the first three quarters of the year, 7.345 million vehicles were scrapped and recycled, up 47.9% year-on-year. According to industry estimates, the recovered materials include about 7.1 million tons of steel, 920,000 tons of aluminum, and 930,000 tons of plastic — helping reduce carbon emissions by more than 21 million tons.
