UK fintech ClearBank is accelerating its expansion across Europe with the appointment of former Uber executive Tristan Kirchner as its European chief executive officer.
The Amsterdam-based executive has more than 20 years experience in the payments industry. As well as spending four years leading Uber’s payments function, he has held senior roles at Visa and Barclays.
“I’m excited to join ClearBank at such a pivotal moment in its expansion journey. With an EU banking licence and strong early traction with more than 30 clients across multiple European markets, the foundations are in place for significant, sustained expansion,” said Kirchner.
“ClearBank’s platform is one of the most innovative in the market, and I look forward to helping bring real-time payments to more clients and their customers throughout Europe, complemented by innovative services, such as stablecoins launching through our partnership with Circle.”
In his new role, Kirchner will take charge of the European operations of the embedded and clearing banking service provider as it prepares to launch a French branch, responding to a strong demand in the region for its services.
With the establishment of the new branch, ClearBank can work directly with domestic fintechs, EMIs and financial institutions in France’s fintech ecosystem.
ClearBank has reshaped its commercial structure, with the company operating across three regional hubs: Northern Europe, Eastern Europe and Southern/Western Europe.
“We are very pleased with the appointment of Tristan as the new leader of ClearBank Europe N.V. The European payments market presents a substantial opportunity for banks built specifically for scale, speed and regulatory resilience,” said Maurice Oostendrop, chair of ClearBank Europe supervisory board.
“ClearBank has moved quickly from licence to meaningful traction across multiple markets, reflecting strong demand for cloud native banking infrastructure.”
