Price comparison provider Compare the Market is scaling its tech capabilities with the hiring of two senior AI experts.
Andrew Hawkins, the former chief executive of Shieldpay and former CTO of Zopa and HSBC, has joined as the firm’s new technology director.
Throughout his senior roles, Hawkins has become known for overseeing the delivery of digital platforms. In his new position he will spearhead the creation of an engineering organisation within the company to support its tech development goals.
The company has also appointed Roberta Cretella, who has held data, AI and analytics roles at firms including Visa, Meta and Ocado Technology, as its director of data and AI solutions.
With both new hires having extensive backgrounds in AI, the company is signalling its plans to accelerate the incorporation of generative AI across its teams and develop new AI-powered products.
Cretella will also lead on the firm’s external engagement on AI, including an existing partnership with the University of Cambridge.
“Compare the Market is already pushing boundaries in the application of AI and data, and the appointments of Andrew and Roberta strengthen our ability to lead the way,” said Compare the Market chief executive Mark Bailie.
“With their expertise and ambition, we’re embedding AI into our products and systems in a way that’s safe, scalable and delivers real impact for customers and partners.”
