The consulting firm 3mdeb’s Dasharo open-source firmware distribution derived from Coreboot could soon feature improved integration under Linux thanks to a pending ACPI platform driver.

The 3mdeb engineer Michał Kopeć has recently been working through intrdocuing a new “dasharo-acpi” ACPI platform kernel driver for systems relying on this Coreboot downstream. Dasharo runs on hardware like the recent MSI Alder/Raptor Lake desktop motherboard ported over by 3mdeb.

With this Dasharo ACPI platform driver, it’s possible to enjoy thermal monitoring via a new ACPI interface added to Dasharo. There is working fan speed sensors, fan PWM duty cycle adjustments, and system temperatures exposed via the firmware for both the CPU and GPU. This driver has initially been tested on a NovaCustom laptop running Dasharo. This new ACPI platform driver, which is gated by the “DASHARO_ACPI” Kconfig option, then exposes the thermal information via the hardware monitoring “HWMON” subsystem.

Those wishing to learn more about this in-development Dasharo ACPI Platform driver can do so via the Linux kernel mailing list.
