The total number of Web DDos attacks increased 550 percent year -on -year in 2024, according to the latest cybersecurity firm, Radware.
As you know, the Distributed attacks of service denial (DDoS) computational resources overload of the attacked system until it is inaccessible. Saturation through large information flows from several points to leave the servers out of service. The number of this type of attack is increasing in recent years, as well as its level of sophistication and power.
The Radware report shows an interannual growth of almost 400 percent in the volume of ddos attacks against the industries of the Finance and transportation. Hastivist allegations have also increased by 20 percent worldwide, the main objectives being. Last year, Ukraine was the most attacked country with 2,052 claimed attacks, followed by Israel with 1,550.
«The threat revolution that we have seen in 2024 has been driven by multiple catalysts, including Geopolitical conflicts and larger, complex, sophisticated and persistent threats«says Pascal Geenens, director of intelligence of radio threats. “If we add to that the impact of the AI, which is reducing the input barriers, multiplying the number of adversaries and allowing even rookie actors to launch malicious campaigns successfully, we have a threat panorama that seems very discouraging”.
Other report data say that the average volume of mitigated attacks increased by 120 percent compared to 2023. The average duration of attacks also increased by 37 percent compared to the previous year.
By sectors43 percent of the volume of ddos attacks on the world network was recorded in the telecommunications sector, followed by the financial sector with 30 percent. The financial sector, which grew faster than the world average, experienced the greatest growth in volume of attacks per organization, with an interannual increase of 393 percent, followed by transport and logistics (375 percent), electronic commerce (238 percent) and service providers (237 percent).
By regionsorganizations in Europe have faced the highest proportion of DDOS activity on the web, representing 45 percent of the volume of global attacks, followed by North America (21 percent).
“The escalation of the threat panorama has significant implications for all sectors, from finance and telecommunications to government and electronic commerce, among others”Add Geenens. «Organizations operate in a dynamic environment that demands
equally dynamic defense strategies. While malicious actors do not have to do their job perfectly to have a
important impact, the defenders do ».
