On Jan. 28, DeepSeek announced on its service status page that due to large-scale malicious attacks on DeepSeek’s services, registration may be suspended. Registered users can log in normally. On Jan. 27, DeepSeek App surpassed ChatGPT to become the top free app on the US App Store, while also topping the free app chart in China. That same day, major tech companies saw sharp declines in their stock prices. Nvidia’s pre-market shares dropped as much as 10.39%, ASML fell 10.59%, and TSMC slid 9.8%, nearing a double-digit loss. According to Bloomberg, the market turbulence was driven by DeepSeek’s newly released AI model, which is cost-effective and capable of running on lower-end chips, raising concerns about Nvidia and other firms being overvalued.
