Every week, Netflix drops a bunch of new content for viewers to stream from TV and movie studios all over the world. Watching all of it would take you a ton of time, so I decided to start my Friday by recommending three top picks for the weekend and week to come. Schedule your viewing around these shows and movies, and I’ll be watching along with you. Even though summertime usually brings fluffy feel-good content, Netflix is bucking the trend with some dark content this week. Here’s what we think is the best stuff to watch.

This Week on Netflix: PCMag’s Picks

Wall To Wall (July 18)

Spend some time inside with the Korean horror movie Wall to Wall. Kang Ha-neul plays a young man who has been scrimping and saving his whole life to buy his own apartment, only to discover that living so close to strangers brings its own problems. “Inter-floor noise” is a legitimate problem in Korean apartment buildings, and the original title of this one translates to “84 Square Meters,” the average size of a Korean apartment.

  • Directors: Kim Tae-joon, Sharon S. Park

  • Cast: Kang Ha-neul, Yeom Hye-ran, Seo Hyun-woo

  • Genre: Thriller

  • Rating: TV-MA

Delirium (July 18)

All of this week’s picks seem to share a common theme: You’re not safe even in what you think is your safest place. Colombian miniseries Delirium stars Estefanía Piñeres as a young wife who suddenly becomes afflicted by bizarre hallucinations, recovered memories, and resurfaced trauma. Now her husband needs to delve deep into her mysterious past to find a way to reach her and bring her back to him. Looks stylish and gripping.

A Normal Woman (July 24)

The new Indonesian film A Normal Woman reminds me of one of my favorite flicks of all time, Todd Haynes’ eerily prescient Safe. Marissa Anita plays a disaffected socialite in Jakarta who becomes convinced she’s suffering from a mysterious illness. As she falls deeper and deeper down the rabbit hole of alternative cures, she alienates herself from friends and family. It’s a great premise that’s extremely resonant in the post-COVID paranoiac world.
