Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy and AI Minister Kanishka Narayan will this week lead the UK’s delegation at the AI Impact Summit in India.

Following on from previous summits at Bletchley, Paris and in Seoul, the AI Impact Summit will take place this week in New Delhi.

Lammy and Narayan are expected to champion the role of the technology in improving public services and build on existing tech and economic partnerships established with India.

Late last year Prime Minister Keir Starmer unveiled a major new trade deal with the Asian superpower in a state visit.

Heading into the new summit, Lammy is expected to discuss how language can be used to create new global opportunities, notably in the form of an African Language hub that would enable AI to work in 40 African languages, expanding its reach and impact.

“The UK is leading the way on AI innovations and expertise. We are rightly a magnet for investment and talent from across the globe,” said Lammy.

“This Summit is an important moment in determining how we can work together with our international partners to unlock the full benefits and potential of AI, while baking in robust and fair safety standards that protect us all.”

Narayan has travelled to India ahead of the summit, visitng key tech hubs in Delhi and Bengaluru to explore closer collaborations between British and Indian tech companies.

“AI is the defining technology of our generation – and we’re determined to make sure it delivers for everyone,” Narayan said.

“It can cut waiting times, transform public services, create new jobs and give hard working communities a fresh start – and that’s exactly the message we’re taking to the summit.”
