Fans of the cult saga will meet this evening at 9:10 p.m. on TF1 to find Harry Potter in one of his darkest adventures. Released in theaters in July 2007, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix marks a real turning point in the franchise in terms of atmosphere and storyline. The fifth installment follows Harry during his fifth year at Hogwarts, while the Ministry of Magic refuses to believe in Voldemort’s return. Faced with the inaction of the authorities and the arrival of the tyrannical Dolores Umbridge, the young wizard decides to form a secret army made up of trusted comrades to prepare for the coming fight.

Dumbledore’s Army ends up fighting in the Department of Mysteries of the Ministry, where Harry tragically loses his godfather Sirius Black. This heartbreaking scene marked more than one fan, but did you know thatit was censored to avoid disturbing spectators ?

An emotional scene too intense for the big screen

Sirius’ death is one of the most moving moments in the saga, and filming this sequence was much more intense than you might think. Daniel Radcliffe, then 16 years old, delivered a performance that disturbed everyone on set. When Harry discovers his godfather’s death, the actor uttered a cry of pain and rage that was so sincere and heartbreaking that the sound had to be removed during the final edit.

David Yates, the film’s director, made this decision because he felt the reaction was too raw and visceral for the audience, which was made up of a majority of young viewers.

Behind the scenes, the technical team present on set during filming was deeply affected by Daniel Radcliffe’s performance. Some members of the team were even moved to tears by witnessing this take, while Emma Watson and Rupert Grint initially believed that their comrade had been injured to manage to let out such a cry.

The final montage ultimately favors a more silent and internalized approach to Harry’s pain. We do see the young wizard screaming, but the silence amplifies the dramatic and desperate nature of the moment, as if his suffering was beyond words.

See you this evening on TF1 to rediscover this key chapter of the saga… minus the cry of Daniel Radcliffe.
