The bet proved to be a winning one for Blue Origin. The space company of billionaire Jeff Bezos (the founder of Amazon) has just struck a big blow. Like SpaceX 10 years ago, it managed to recover the first stage of its rocket during a flight into space. It was during the 2nd flight of its New Glenn rocket that the feat took place. Blue Origin managed to recover, intact, the first stage of its rocket.

On social networks, Blue Origin could not hide its joy. It must be said that the company has just achieved a monumental performance. If bringing back the first stage of its rocket may seem trivial as SpaceX has trivialized the extraordinary, Blue Origin is only the second private company in the history of humanity capable of such a feat.

It was to thunderous applause that the propulsion unit gently landed on a barge in the open sea. It had left Earth a few minutes earlier, its tanks full, from the legendary Cape Canaveral launch pad in Florida. Even Elon Musk came out of his silence to congratulate those who become, in facthis greatest adversaries.

Blue Origin returns to the race for the Moon

Long described as a “second-tier” company behind SpaceX, Blue Origin is putting itself back in the eyes of NASA. While SpaceX is experiencing difficulties with its giant Starship rocket, an equally financially powerful adversary is enjoying a string of successes.

What to reshuffle the cards on NASA’s side? Officially, the American space agency still trusts SpaceX and Elon Musk to ensure its return to the Moon. The company has just published several images showing the plans of its Starship spacecraft for the HLS (Human Landing Service) mission.

NASA has entrusted SpaceX with the very delicate task of managing the moon landing of the Artemis 3 mission. The return of the astronauts to Earth will depend entirely on the proper functioning of this spacecraft. Faced with this immense responsibility, Blue Origin and Jeff Bezos have pushed for years for NASA to select a “second program” as a sort of spare tire if SpaceX fails to develop its ship as promised. Due to lack of budget, NASA never responded favorably to this request.
