Will Lucky Luke finally receive a live action adaptation worthy of the name? After the disaster The Daltons by Eric and Ramzy in 2004 and the terrible film by James Huth with Jean Dujardin in 2009: suffice to say that it will take very heavy lifting to make us forget all that. It was during the Séries Mania festival in Lille last March that we learned about the development of a series Lucky Luke. Manuel Alduy, director of cinema, international fiction and young adults at France Télévisions then promised a “very, very ambitious” project planned for broadcast in 2025.
Production does not suffer any delays since France TV and Disney+ are taking advantage of the launch of filming in Spain to formalize their partnership on this project. Initially, the Mickey Mouse platform will have the exclusivity of this new program to broadcast its 8 episodes. Subsequently, the live action Lucky Luke will also appear on French airwaves. However, France Télévisions has not yet announced which channel in its group will take over. While waiting to learn more about the release of the program, here is everything you need to know about the casting and the storyline of this adaptation.
An original story
After revealing the presence ofAlban Lenoir (Antigang) in the eponymous role of Lucky Luke last March, the producers of the series finally presented us with the rest of the cast. To bring the characters of Morris’ work to life, we will find Jerome Niel (Vermines) as Joe Dalton, Victor the Blond (Anti-gang: the relief) in the role of Billy the Kid and Camille Chamoux (The Torch) as Calamity Jane. Two new characters will also make their debut: the incredible Louise played by Billie Blain (The Animal Kingdom) and Charlie who will appear in the guise of Alice Taglioni (The Lining).
A first synopsis reveals to us that Lucky Luke (Alban Lenoir) will have to come to the aid of Louise (Bille Blain), “an 18 year old girl as prickly as a cactus and more unpredictable than a rabid coyote“. This quest to find Louise’s mother will lead the duo on the traces of a plot which “could change the history of the United States“. These are the beginnings which promise a great spectacle, provided that the series manages to find the perfect balance between humor and action. After two failures on the big screen, let’s hope that the teams behind this project have understood how to avoid disaster. Now see you in 2025 for more information.
