AN INFLUX of Disney+’s annual customers have received the dreaded email explaining that the cost of their subscription will rise with their next payment.

The streaming giant hiked prices in October last year by up to £24 for its ad-free ‘Standard’ and ‘Premium’ annual plans.

That’s the equivalent of an extra £2 per month.

But due to their billing cycle, customers who signed up when Disney+ first crossed the pond will now have to pay the extra.

In an email, Disney+ wrote to its annual subscribers: “We hope you’ve been loving all that Disney+ has to offer so far. We wanted to let you know that we are updating our prices.

“If you choose to stay on your current Disney+ Premium plan, your subscription will increase to £129.90 per year from XX March 2025, unless you cancel before then.

“That’s because we want to bring you the very best entertainment we can, from new originals you won’t find anywhere else, to the latest blockbuster movies.”

If you’re on the Standard tier, the email will tell you that the annual price is going up from £79.90 to £89.90.

In 2020, when the service first launched in the UK, an annual Disney+ subscription cost £59.99.

This was before the days of the ‘Standard’ and ‘Premium’ tiers.

Last March, Premium customers received a similar email increasing annual subscriptions from £79.99 to £109.99.

This year, they jumped again from £109.99 to £129.90.

If you’re on the Standard tier, the email will tell you that the annual price is going up from £79.90 to £89.90.

A number of customers online are now saying that enough is enough, with prices having more than doubled over the past five years.

“Disney+ is greedy… just got the email that they’re increasing the subscription in March,” one customer wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

“They’re like dodgy landlords increasing the rent for no reason.”

Another added: “Just cancelled my @DisneyPlusUK renewal.

“In 2020, it was £59.99 a year – now it’s £129.90. A 116% increase in four years… Even Scrooge McDuck would be outraged!”

A third X user wrote: “Ridiculous price gouging from Disney… At this rate it’ll be £179.99 in 2026.”

There appears to be a big wave of annual plan renewals now because Disney first launched in March 2020.

As such, a large portion of viewers who have been customers since then have their plans auto-renew around this time of year.
