DJI recently announced its newest premium consumer drone, the DJI Mavic 4, but how does it compare to the ultra-compact DJI Mini 4 Pro.
Not only is the DJI Mini series smaller than the Mavic series, but the drones also weigh less and cost a significant amount less. However, this travel (and flying regulation)-friendly design comes at the expense of some of the Mavic’s most impressive features.

Price
The DJI Mavic 4 Pro is more than three times the price of the Mini 4 Pro, coming in at £1879. The drone is also the newest of the two having launched in May 2025 right in time for summer.
The Mini 4 Pro is priced significantly lower at just £585. The drone launched a year and half earlier than the Mavic 4 Pro in September 2023.
The DJI Mini 4 Pro is subject to fewer restrictions
You might think that bigger would be better when it comes to drones but that isn’t necessarily the case for those of us based in the UK. The country has stricter regulations on drones that weigh more than 250g, meaning you can typically fly closer to people and buildings with a lightweight model like the DJI Mini 4 Pro.
More specifically, drones weighing more than 250g – like the 1063g Mavic 4 Pro – cannot be flown above any uninvolved people, or within 50m horizontally of them. Heavier drones also need to be kept at least 150m away from built-up residential, recreational, commercial and industrial sites. There is the option to take a training course and exam to fly as close as 30m to uninvolved people but this will cost you another £100.

It’s also worth mentioning that the Mini 4 Pro is physically smaller than the Mavic 4 Pro, with the Mini measuring 257.6 x 124.8 x 103.4mm when folded without propellers and the Mavic measuring 148 x 94 x 64mm folded and without propellers, making the Mini the more travel friendly option of the two.
That said, there are some major benefits to the Mavic 4 Pro being larger, including better flight stability and space for camera sensors and a larger battery, which we’ll talk about in more detail further down.
The DJI Mavic 4 Pro can fly further and faster
The DJI Mavic 4 Pro is capable of flying twice as fast as the Mini 4 Pro, with a maximum ascent speed of 10m/s to the Mini’s 5m/s and a maximum descent speed of 10m/s to the Mini’s 5m/s. The Mavic 4 Pro also boasts a maximum horizontal speed of 25m/s at sea level with no wind, whereas the Mini 4 Pro can go as fast as 16m/s in these same conditions.
The Mavic 4 Pro can also fly further distances, with the drone having a maximum takeoff altitude of 6000m compared to the Mini 4 Pro’s 4000m with the Intelligent Flight Battery, or 3000m with the Intelligent Flight Battery Plus.

The maximum flight distance of the Mavic 4 Pro is 41km, while the maximum flight distance of the Mini 4 Pro is 18km with the Intelligent Flight Battery, or 25km with the Intelligent Flight Battery Plus.
The Mavic 4 Pro also offers higher wind speed resistance at 12m/s compared to the Mini 4 Pro’s 10.7m/s.
The DJI Mavic 4 Pro features a triple camera
As mentioned earlier, the DJI Mavic 4 Pro’s larger size makes room for more camera sensors, making it the more versatile option when it comes to recording content and capturing stills for aerial photography.
More specifically, the Mavic 4 Pro is equipped with three sensors: the 100-megapixel 4/3 CMOS Hasselblad camera with a 28mm lens that offers up to 2.5x zoom, a 48-megapixel 1/1.3-inch CMOS Medium Tele camera with a 70mm lens and up to 6x zoom and a 50-megapixel 1/1.5-inch CMOS Tele camera with a 168mm lens and support for up to 24x zoom.

The Mini 4 Pro, meanwhile, sticks with a single 48-megapixel 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor with a 24mm lens and up to 4x zoom when shooting FHD.
When it comes to video, the Mavic 4 Pro is capable of capturing up to 6K video, whereas the Mini 4 Pro tops out at 4K. The Mavic 4 Pro also features a more versatile camera gimbal, making it the better pick if you plan to record a lot of 9:16 vertical video for social media, such as TikTok and Instagram Reels.
The DJI Mavic 4 Pro has a longer battery life
Another major benefit to the Mavic 4 Pro’s larger body is that it makes room for a bigger battery.
More specifically, the Mavic 4 Pro is powered by a 6654 mAh battery weighing a hefty 332g, whereas the Mini 4 Pro relies on a much more compact Intelligent Flight Battery 2590 mAh battery weighing 77.9g, or the Intelligent Flight Battery Plus which offers 3850 mAh of power and weighs 121g.

That 6654 mAh battery in the Mavic 4 Pro translates to 51 minutes of maximum flight time, or 45 minutes of max hovering time. The Mini 4 Pro, on the other hand, offers 34 minutes of max flight time with the Intelligent Flight Battery (or 45 minutes with the Intelligent Flight Battery Plus) and 30 minutes of max hovering time with the Intelligent Flight Battery (or 39 minutes with the Intelligent Flight Battery Plus).
Early verdict
As our reviewer noted in his review of the DJI Mavic 4 Pro, the larger drone is a fantastic premium consumer drone and truly an enthusiast’s dream. However, the average person will find the smaller, more lightweight Mini 4 Pro to be a more appealing sell.
