If you’ve been debating getting a PlayStation 5, now is the time to strike if you want to avoid paying more. Starting April 2, all new PlayStation 5 consoles will cost a good bit more across the board, with the PlayStation 5 Pro seeing the largest price increase, jumping $150 to $899.99. That not only means that new consoles are going to increase in price, but used consoles as well — which could make investing in a PlayStation 5 at any point in the near future much harder to justify for some.

Whether you’ve been on the fence about getting one or you’re just waiting for a good deal to drop, the time for waiting is over. GameStop has already updated its used PlayStation 5 prices, reportedly even doing so as early as a few days before Sony’s price change even took effect. When you look at the pre-owned PlayStation 5 Pro page on GameStop, you see an updated price of $807.49 as of this article’s writing. Luckily, you may still be able to find one for the previous price, or at least close to it, on eBay or other websites like it.

You can still find used PS5s at decent prices (for now)

Unfortunately, the number of people selling used PlayStation 5s for the previous price is going to decrease as the world settles into the new pricing structure. There are still a number of listings for the console on eBay that appear to be closer to previous prices, though you’ll definitely want to do your research on the seller before blindly choosing one.

Additionally, it appears that Sony’s direct purchase options for refurbished PlayStation 5 consoles are more in line with the previous prices, as you can purchase the original PlayStation 5 Disc Edition for just $399 at the time of writing. Refurbished Slim and Digital Edition models already appear to be closer to the new pricing, but the options are there if you want them. How long these consoles will remain at their current prices is unclear, though, and with the rush from users to snag one before they’re gone, the stock appears to be dwindling quickly.

The price hike on PlayStation 5 consoles isn’t unexpected, especially given the announcement for the PS5 price increase that Sony made in March, as well as the current state of the industry. The PlayStation 5 has 16 GB of RAM, along with various sizes of internal SSDs. Those core components are becoming more expensive as the ongoing AI-driven chip shortage fuels a spike in demand that continues to outpace supply.
